In this post, I will write a short overview of my adventure in RebootDevelopBlue in Dubrovnik, Croatia.
Before I start writing about Reboot I want to tell a few words about the city Dubrovnik. Dubrovnik is placed near the sea in Croatia if you go there you should definitely see the Old city of Dubrovnik with its small roads and old houses. The old city was actually bombed when there was a war and most of it was destroyed but in just 5 years they managed to get it completely renewed. Another thing that makes Dubrovnik popular for the visitors is that some of the scenes from “Game of Thrones” were taken there.
This event is one of the biggest summits for game developers in Europe. There some of the most popular studios and creators make presentations, lectures, “Beachside chats” etc. The event goes for 3 days from 10 AM until 7 PM.
Reboot took place in Sheraton and it was really well organized by the team of Reboot and the CEO Damir Durovic. The cool thing was that with the ticket they were selling was that it has Lunch and Coffee breaks included for the 3 days.
At the event, there are also Indie studios or creators who show off their games that are or will be soon released for the public. You can find any kinds of games, such as Virtual Reality, games with eye tracking technology, PC games, for console or even games for mobile.
When me and my brother went there we got really excited, because we saw how many developers were there. Firstly I will tell you more about the games that we saw there and my personal favorites, afterward, we will go for the lectures I went to and what I learned about Virtual Reality there.
As I said there were many different games at the event, we managed to play a few of them. The first thing we got to test was a new eye-tracking technology for disabled people, this system allows you to play a game using only your eyes. I met with Barry Floyd from SpecialEffect, who told me a bit more about this new technology and how they are rebinding the game controls for eye tracking. My personal favorite game is Warlander created by ClockDriveGames on which I will make a different post telling you more about the game and all the cool mechanics in it. For now, you can find more information about their game at www.warlandergame.com.
There were also 2 Bulgarian Indie studios presenting their games. One of them, MyotiX are making a platform runner style, low poly game for mobile devices.
I got to see and talk to some of the developers that are successful and in the industry for a long time. Some of the devs that I was really excited to see are Tomasz Kaczmarczyk, Joachim Ante and Tomislav Pongrac. Especially Tomasz Kaczmarczyk’s presentation was really helpful for me because he showed us a software that will be released really soon for all the Indie studios so that they can import there their selling data and it transfers it into easy to read charts. The program is called IndieBI.
We also went to a presentation for the new Oculus Rift S and Oculus Quest, Matt Conte explained the pros and cons for the new headsets and what are they most useful for. I can’t wait for the release of the new Oculus Quest, the presentation got me really excited about it and I think the headset has great potential in it.
One of the best things that happened there is that I got to meet the co-founder of Unity Technologies Joachim Ante, and took a picture with him 🙂
That’s most of what happened in Reboot this year, of course, I got to meet really good game developers there and overall it was worth it!
